Loton Park, 16 May – 6th in BHC Round 2 45.49s
Prescott, 25 April – 2nd Overall 36.13s,
Harewood, 12 April – FTD 50.51s

April 2021: Trevor Willis has just updated his MBE9A9 to the current spec 9A9B, which has a much faster processor than his current one. He had been running one of the very first 9A9s. Steve spoke to him on Monday, he had been testing the previous week at Curborough and the test had gone well, everything feeling good. He had done an event at Harewood at the weekend, he said it was a bit cold at only 5-degC at best and was worried that wouldn’t be enough grip in the cold conditions, but he was surprised at how well the car gripped and the traction control was doing its job as could be seen from the datalogging. He said you could barely feel it in the car, the biggest clue was that there was only limited grip was when he came to use the brakes. The day went well, ending in FTD, 50.51s.

Well done Trevor, British Hillclimb Champion 2018

Trevor has 4 x FTDs this year at Harewood, Doune, Barbon Manor and again at Harewood in July when he also got a new hill record with 48.29s. He won 11 British Hillclimb Championship run-offs.

Excerpt from Motorsport News from the Loton round, 23 September: ‘Trevor Willis clinched his third British Hillclimb Championship title after his closest rival failed to score in the penultimate round at Loton Park… Willis, driving an OMS28, only took fourth in the moning Top 12 run-off but closest rival Will Hall, in a Force WH Xtec, overran in wet conditions at the track’s notorious Triangle Bend and failed to score, handing Willis the crown. After taking a second place in the final round, Willis who was also champion in 2012 and ’17, said “I am so relieved to clinch the title as I only had a fragile lead coming into these last two rounds and Will was closing fast, however I do feel for him as he and his team are always hard to beat.” ‘

Well Done Trevor, British Hillclimb Champion 2017

HSA’s Speedscene magazine interviewed Trevor in July about his Hillclimb career.

Excerpt from Motorsport News Sept 6th: ‘Trevor Willis did enough to ensure he is 2017 British Hillclimb Champion for the second time at Prescott last weekend. Weather affected the qualifying for both rounds but there was a stunning outcome for Richard Spedding, who triumphed each time in his GWR-Suzuki Raptor.  Even thought Wallace Menzies spun out in the first encounter, Willis had to wait for the conclusion of the second run-off to be declared champion and then had to suffer the customary awards presentation soaking ring-led by Menzies.’

Trevor acheived 4 FTDs and won the British Hillclimb run-offs on 8 occasions in the 2017 season.

Well done to Trevor, 2nd Overall in the British Hillclimb Championship 2016

Trevor competed in the FIA Masters at Sternberk in October finishing 2nd in Class with 1:19.11, just 0.18s behind the winner. He was the fastest 2WD vehicle off the start line at Sternberk and fastest car overall to 100m. For a full report, see OMS Racing.

During the 2016 season he finished 1st in 8 British Hillclimb run-offs, got 2 FTDs and achieved a New Course record at Bouley Bay with 36.48s.

The Guernsey Press and Star reported on the Jersey event with the following piece written by Matt Lihou.
Willis blew the rest ‘out of the water’
Guernsey star Darren Warwick has described Trevor Willis’ record breaking Bouley bay hillclimb run as one of the finest drives he has ever seen. The prestigious British hillclimb Championship arrives in Guernsey today and while Scott Moran is expected to be the man to beat, Willis is in a rich vein of form. He won both rounds in Jersey on Thursday to close the gap on rival Moran at the top of the overall standings with the two fastest times ever recorded up the hill. The 37.14 second effort at the end of the day that won him round 20 was quick, but it was his spectacular attempt a couple of hours earlier that earned him a standing ovation from his rivals.
As he was preparing in the pits, he witnessed the previous record of 37.79s broken by each of Richard Spedding (37.78), Scott Moran (37.47) and Wallace Menzies (37.39) in succession. Willis decided to take it one step further, though, by obliterating Menzies’ new mark with a staggering 36.48 that left his rivals well in his wake.
It had Guernsey’s best driver Warwick purring in admiration at the drive. ‘In the hillclimbs I have seen or been involved in, which is about 25 years of driving and another 10 years or so before that watching, that is one of the finest drives I have ever seen’ he said. ‘Clearly, car technology moves forward year-on-year and it isn’t a huge surprise to see these guys get quicker each time, but to blow everyone else out of the water like that is incredible. Everyone else before him was nibbling away a bit at the record and then he just took it to another level by beating everybody by nearly a second’.

Excerpt from Motorsport News 14.5.14 after winning both the British Hillclimb run-offs at Harewood:
‘Trevor Willis moved up from joint fifth place to second in the championship with four dominant run-off victories on what is one of the most logistically challenging weekends in the series. Willis, modest as ever, claimed that the success was not as straightforward as it appeared: “At Barbon, even though the track was drying after earlier rain on the bumpy surface, it meant the car was squirming as the weight came back on the wheels. Harewood is a difficult track to read, you can think you have done well but the opposite is true. In the last run off I felt I had not done enough but it shows how wrong this hill can make you”.’

Text message received from Trevor: Hi Steve, it’s been an intense few weeks but i am very happy now! Thanks for all your help this year – it really made a difference.

During the year he acheived 9 FTDs, 3 New Course records & won 11 Championship run-offs.

Excerpt from AUTOSPORT Magazine 20.12.12 – Willis and Moran win to take title fight to the finale. The title fight between Trevor Willis and Scott Moran will go to the Loton Park finale on the last day of September after each took a win at Doune. Moran had trouble with a damp track in he firs turnoff, but backed to win the second as Willis escaped the barriers on the last run of the event. While there are 40 points between them, Willis is now just four ahead after accounting for dropped scores. “The track was patchy after rain and I touched the barrier,” said Willis. “It spat the car back into the middle of the track.”

Steve (SBD) & Chris from MBE joined Trevor when he was testing his OMS at Curborough in April 2012 to fine tune his new MBE9A9 ECU with traction control, launch control & closed loop lambda fuel mapping.

Trevor is delighted with the new system, saying that the traction control & launch control has helped dramatically particularly in the changeable conditions this year.

Well Done to Trevor for finishing 3rd Overall in British Hillclimb Championship 2008.

This included winning the Run-offs at Gurston in May and at Prescott in September.  He also got 5 FTDs during the season.

Motorsport News 28 May reported after winning at Gurston: ‘Willis took victory with the last run in that round , he praised the engine of his compact OMS. “In the wet the power delivery is excellent, and the car gives feedback. You stop thinking about other peoples times & just concentrate”

Motorsport News 30 July reported after Wiscombe: ‘Trevor Willis continued his great season of consistency as the best behind Moran & Groves despite driving a car that is less powerful than at least six cars behind him.’

Motorsport News 10 September reported his FTD at Prescott: ‘Martin Groves & Trevor Willis shared the spoils as dreadful weather lashed the Gloucestershire venue. Trevor Willis suffered a bad first round but took a win with best time of the day in the last run-off with the fourth championship round victory of his career.’

Trevor finished 5th Overall with 158 points in the British Hillclimb Championship 2007 and won the run off at both Bouley Bay and Wiscombe Park during the year. He also finished 6th Overall in the Avon + BMTR Top Ten Challenge 2007.

In March 2007, Trevor took his OMS to Curborough to meet with Steve to map his upgraded engine. The engine has been upgraded from last years standard Powertec V8 with SBD throttle bodies & MBE management system. This year we supplied Trevor with a new design cylinder head, pistons & camshafts, along with continuing with the SBD throttle bodies & MBE management system. The engine was put together by Powertec, who are very pleased with the result.

In 2006 Trevor’s new 2.6 litre Powertec built V8 debuted in the back of his latest OMS single seater at Gurston in May, and SBD’s Steve Broughton was on hand carrying out closed loop mapping of the engine during the car’s first runs in anger anywhere.

He finished 2006 11th overall in the Nicholson McLaren MSA British Hill Climb Championship and 8th Overall in the Avon + BMTR Top Ten Challenge.
