Turbo Technics Special – 2.3L EcoBoost

May 2018
Geoff Kershaw, boss of Turbo Technics has developed his 2.3L EcoBoost and has now finished its first stage of development, ready to go in the car. Geoff has carried out fairly extensive modifications to the internals of the 2.3L EcoBoost and produced a prototype development turbo including electronic actuator for waste gate control. Many days have been spent at DTW Engines developing the strategies to control the 2.3L EcoBoost and the final part was the electronic waste gate control, which has allowed almost perfect control over the boost levels for the engine. Steve has spent time at the dyno, along with one of the software engineers from MBE to get everything running perfectly and then over the last few days has logged in remotely to help Geoff and Dave out with the finer details, whilst they completed the mapping. Geoff’s comments were ‘Finally finished dyno testing the new Focus engine today. Running on 102 RON ‘race’ fuel, it achieved over 580 BHP with 540 lbf-ft torque. This with rather inadequate cooling flow for the intercooler – correcting for this should give around 620 BHP.’
