Description

1.6L VX Camshaft Pair, Mechanical Profiles for Distributorless Engines

CM16V1.6-300-290-PAIR

The SBD300/290 pair are combined to give a large increase in power suitable for full race engines used in top spec sprint cars or state of the art rally cars. Please do not underestimate the characteristics of these cams in the 1.6L 16v, they are designed to optimise power from this high revving engine but will only suit full specification engines and cars with sequential gearboxes with well-matched ratios to keep the engine within its power band.

In most conventional cases we recommend the previous stage cams as these are more drivable with a wider torque curve. They will produce + 45 – 80 BHP* over standard cams. Power band 4500 –9800 RPM.

1.6L 16v Inlet camshaft:
13.25mm lift, 300 deg duration, TDC lift at No4 cylinder: 4.30mm
1.6L 16v Short exhaust camshaft:
12.60mm lift, 290 deg duration, TDC lift at No4 cylinder: 3.60mm

We recommend the following additional valve train components:
Piston Recommendation: SBD/Omega pistons with compression ratio of 12.75:1 to 13:1 (98RON fuel)
Cam follower type: CMFL-2S
Valve spring, cap & platform type: VLSK-VX1.6-01K
Vernier Pulleys: CMVP-5

In most cases only the high specification camshafts will require modifications to the cylinder head to allow clearance, but it is recommended that a check is always made due to the fact that some head castings can vary dramatically. This is best checked by placing the camshaft into a bare cylinder head & rotating the cam through 360-degs marking anywhere with a felt pen where the lobe touches the head casting. In most cases there may only be a few points of contact, but the greater the lift of the camshaft, the more likely contact will occur. It is normally a simple process with a dremal or die grinder to remove these high spots on the cylinder head. We offer a CNC machining operation to carry out a full clearance modification which will work even on our high specification cams HEAD-CLC-1-1.6.

Please note that these camshafts are ground to order and will take approximately 5 working days, please ensure you have ordered the correct components as they are non-returnable.

All SBD camshafts have been designed in conjunction with Kent Cams and extensively tested on the dynamometer. Because of the costs involved in developing and testing, we charge a premium price for all our own cam profiles. If however, you wish to purchase Kent Cam profiles from their normal range of cams standard listings, these will be available at normal Kent Cams prices.

*Power gains can only be achieved provided your engine has the components to complement it. E.g. exhaust manifold & system, induction system & cylinder head porting where required. If you look at our upgrade kits they will give you more help.

Please see the instruction sheets for information regarding the camshafts, their installation & running in.
