Goodwood Eagle Sprint

Steve will be driving the 1440cc Hayabusa powered SBD DJ Firehawk CT004

Steve: FTD – 81.18s

The forecast was for heavy rain, which was expected to stop for a while, then more heavy rain. Practice started with a damp track but got the worst just as Steve and the other single seaters and sports cars got to the start line so he was glad we had kept the wets on the DJ. He was fastest by about 15s from the highly tuned Nissan GTRs as they had run on a damp track. For the 1st timed run, the weather got worse again and by the time Steve went out there was lots of standing water on the track. He stayed about 15 seconds ahead of the GTRs again. There were quite a few spins and offs. It was then lunchtime and the sun made an appearance so with that and the steady wind by the 2nd timed run, the track had begun to dry, but heavy rain was expected at any minute. Steve’s time had been beaten by the GTRS and Clive Wooster by just over a second. Steve had decided to continue with the wets, since the track was still damp in places. This was a good decision because halfway though the lap, the heavens opened. He still managed to knock 15 seconds off his earlier time to win by nearly 14 seconds on an 81.18s. After that the rain got so bad that the last run was cancelled. It was an eventful day and Steve was testing revised Launch and traction control settings, which still need some more work.

He hasn’t yet driven the new suspension setup in the dry, but it feels pretty good in the wet. We had a good day thanks to Brighton & Hove Motor Club despite the weather causing problems for the second time this year at their sprint events!
